I was looking for an inexpensive, cordless sweeper so I didn't have to drag out the big vacuum or try to chase the fluff bunnies around with a broom. Our house is almost completely hard flooring and we have seven cats so the latter scenario has been commonplace.
Unfortunately, I don't think this vac is the best for what I was wanting for several reasons. One, it doesn't get right up along the wall nor does it have attachments to help it do so. Since this is where the fluff tends to collect, it means I have to get my broom out anyhow to sweep these things to the middle of the floor. On the other hand, at least I don't have to try to catch it in a dustpan. Second, the dust reservoir is incredibly small. Hand vac small. It looks bigger because of the design of the filter but it is really only the bottom quarter of the "tank". Not a problem if you're just using it for spot cleaning the dirt just tracked in but the kitty fluff takes up a little more space and means emptying it at least once during a run. Last, the kitty fluff wreaks havoc on the beater bar. This is going to be true on pretty much any model but seems to be more so in this case. I spend what seems like a third of my cleaning time removing things from the roller.
This all said, I still give it four stars because it does work somewhat for my uses and very well for more conventional uses. If you're looking for something just to pick up the little spills and such, especially for carpet, it should serve you well. When I cut my son's hair, I let it all fall onto the rug and this sucker (pun intended) picked up every strand without a problem. On the hard flooring, it easily gets the dust and dirt but is less effective on small items as it tends to try to push things around before picking them up. Turning it on the carpet setting so the roller bar could help push things in the right direction seemed to help.Get more detail about Dirt Devil M083414 Extreme Power Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner.
