This product does exactly what it was intended to do. It sucks up dust, dirt, and minor debris; and it does it well. The balance is perfect in your hand; the snout is fairly long for getting into tight places, it has powerful suction, the battery lasts long, the charger is first class and lets you know when it is done, the battery indicator lets you know how much longer you can use the vac before recharge, and it has a built-in brush. That merits 5 stars.

There are two minor cons that don't measure up to the 5-star level. When the brush is rotated and slid/snapped out into working position, it does not stayed extended out if you push hard on the surface being vacuumed. But, I don't think the designers intended that you use the brush to vacuum a carpet. It does work very well on computer keyboards, my cordless phone charging station, the back of my computer, and the nooks and crannies on my car dashboard. What I now do is to wrap a wide rubber band around the extended nozzle, just behind the brush. That works perfectly. The brush does not slide back from operating position, and I can do my whole car very successfully with no brush problems.

The second con is that when emptying the vac, the cannister rotates stiffly, so I hold the handle between my knees and use both hands to rotate the cannister to remove it. I suspect that after I empty the vac a number of times it will start to loosen a little, and it will be a one-hand job.

Every time I use this vacuum cleaner, the thought goes through my mind that Hoover must have assigned their most experienced product engineer to design it. The switch is in the perfect position. The perfect balance makes the unit feel light. The nozzle end just wants to hang down to the right position where you will be cleaning. You can see how much you have sucked up and when it is time to empty. The more expensive lithium ion battery charges quickly and does a lot of cleaning before becoming discharged.

I think this is over-priced, essentially paid $59 for the vac and $70 for the battery which I mostly use with the Stick vac in this Platinum line. The Owner's Manual states that the battery must be removed before attaching or removing the 'optional power brushroll'. Hoover currently does not have the power brushroll in production but its addition to the handvac will be a real plus. I will go for it as soon as it's available. As it is, it's suction is very good but the nozzle is not very effective on furniture with cat hair with or without the swing-up brush assembly. I have both the hand-vac and stick-vac of the beautiful Hoover Platinum LINX series. I've used them for weeks now, and I find the stick-vac to be about perfect in every way - it's wonderful not having to drag around a cord everywhere, and it's light, quiet, and actually fun to use. The hand-vac is not perfect, but it's still an excellent cleaning tool - it's powerful, stylish, and runs for a relatively long time.

The hand-vac's one "con", as others have mentioned, concerns the nozzle with its extendable crevice tool and brush. Even when the crevice tool is extended, it is still not long enough to get into the spaces beside the seats in my car, and the brush extension will not stay in place if any pressure is applied. (But I appreciate the tip about using a rubber band - great idea.)

To empty, these two vacs are the easiest and neatest bagless types I've ever had (and I have three cats!). I have both the LINX cordless upright and the hand held vacuum. As a result I have 2 batteries and always have enough charge to get anything completed. One would be sufficient though. My old Black & Decker cordless vac, PHV1800 died on me and when I went to replace it I was told it had been discontinued which now I'm not sure is true since it's still listed on their website. So I decided to "upgrade" a little and purchased this Hoover from Amazon for twice the price of the B&D. Although the removable chargeable battery is a nice feature (for other Hoover products yet to come) I prefer the old way of just docking the vac in it's stand while the whole thing is plugged in. Solves the storage problem. This a pain to store; it rolls on it's side and falls off of things. But this power pack is replaceable..the B&D was not easily replaceable. They are both 18 volt, but this seems less powerful. When the power is "up" it just shuts off (after about 15 minutes, not enough to do corners & floors on the first floor of my small house), unlike the B&D which would continue (at less power) for a little while longer. It is less noisy though. It is not as easy to maneuver into tight spaces...the extension nozzle is not long enough and does not stay in place. The dust removal "can" is also hard to remove as it's too wide for most female hands to twist. I have to get my husband to do that. I was a bit hesitant to order this, been so disapointed in dust busters over the years, all end up in the trash and the dirt handling is terrible.

On this little gizmo though, it appears that Hoover really started from scratch and built a hand vac to work, and to last.

The power provided by the 18v LIon battery is fantastic, I'm stunned how quickly it collects particles I don't even see on the floor.

Also, there were some comments that the flip out nozzle is bad. In my opinion, certainly, it's made from plastic so if you're a gorilla and want to force things, you can break it, that's what happens to hinges when you have leverage as your mechanical advantage. That being said, if you work the click locking mechanism as it's intended to work, it's fantastic. Point being, if you give this to a dullard or your 8 year old boy, you will probably end up with the flip out brush nozel extension broken, but that does not need to happen nor should it. If somehow it does, the unit is still totally operable, you would just have to keep the little extension seperate and plug it in to the nozzle end when needed.

I love this little power house hand held. Only major test left to do is the washing of the reusable filter plate for the dust collection cup. This stick vac has changed my life--really...hardwood floors throughout our main living space and 2 small boys made for a constant mess of crumbs, sand, playdoh etc. Dragging out the full size vacuum just left me going crazy as the kids tried to play jumprope with the cord. This little guy has enough power to pick up sand, cereal, even some little metal beads that spilled from a broken toy. The handle allows for swiveling of the unit so its very easily manuevered into corners. The handle also angles down to the floor so you can get under any furniture with at least a few inches of clearance. Super lightweight, easy to clean and empty, sits in its cute little charger which takes only a small footprint of space (the handle also folds down cutting the height in half so we actually sat this little bugger on a shelf). The vac also allows change from hard floor with no brushroll to carpet with brush, so I clean the floor mats or do a quick clean on stairs/carptet although you'll still need the big guns for a thorough vacuuming on carpet. Pick up the extra filters with it since they are only $4.99 for 2, although I can't see needing to change them very frequently as they really don't get dirty fast at all.
