I have been using my new dirt devil for 2 weeks now. I do use it atleast twice a day. I have 3 kids plus I babysit 4 other kids 5 days a week all day. So I am always cleaning something up. This stick vac has changed my life--really...hardwood floors throughout our main living space and 2 small boys made for a constant mess of crumbs, sand, playdoh etc. Dragging out the full size vacuum just left me going crazy as the kids tried to play jumprope with the cord. This little guy has enough power to pick up sand, cereal, even some little metal beads that spilled from a broken toy. The handle allows for swiveling of the unit so its very easily manuevered into corners. The handle also angles down to the floor so you can get under any furniture with at least a few inches of clearance. Super lightweight, easy to clean and empty, sits in its cute little charger which takes only a small footprint of space (the handle also folds down cutting the height in half so we actually sat this little bugger on a shelf). This one replaces my Pronto, which was a huge disappointment, as the slightest bit of dog hair and the brush would bind up and stop. I have also had a Eureka cordless that was better than the Pronto, but not even close to this one.

This vacuum is more powerful than I had hoped for and hair doesn't seem to slow it down at all. It still remains to be seen how long it will last, as I have only been using it for a couple of months.

The only downside, other than not being as sexy looking as the Pronto, is that the noise is like a high pitched jet engine! Since I never use it for more than 10 minutes at a time, I can put up with it as long as it continues doing as good a job as it is doing. I am very very pleased with this little cordless vacuum and I have my 6 and 9 year old kids taking it around the house themselves. In fact, I think if you were considering a toy vacuum for a 4-5 year montessori type kid, why not get one that really works? They completely LOVE seeing the dirt through the clear cup and watching it swirl about like a tornado. I have a cockatiel that scatters seeds and feathers around his cage, and I was very tired of the twice-a-day stooping over to sweep, picking it up with dustpan, or getting out my Hoover portavac, plugging it in, stepping around the cord (that vac is great too, but too heavy for the kids to use), and dragging it back to the closet. I am using it for little spills on a hardwood floor to tide me over between serious cleans, and for that, it's just GREAT, like gravel emptied in a pile from the sneakers, and the constant accumulation of crumbs on the kitchen wood floor in the toe-kick area at the base of the cupboards. If you are expecting a workhorse for lots of carpet, this is not the right tool. Nothing cordless could manage that much suction. If you wanted to vacuum up a trail of stomped crackers across the carpet, works fine. I touch up the small rugs by the doors. I don't have to deal with dog or cat hair, so I don't have to empty the cup each time like some reviewers said, but tapping out the dirt takes 30 seconds and is very easy. This beats the pants off a handheld dustbuster. It is light, you can fold the handle down to store it if you need to, and it just sits plugged into a charger pan until you need to take it out. This is an excellent product. I have tried a few different models and have found this one most pleasing. It can pick up Kitty Litter with out a problem - I have two large cats and they can cause a daily mess that tracks onto the hard wood floors and area rugs. The dual settings (hard floors and carpet with rotating brush) work well. If your home is all carpet this will not replace your full size vacume. I bought this Dirt Devil Extreme Power Stick to help me with quick touch-ups between regular vacuuming. Mainly, I wanted it to pick up pet fur, crumbs from pet food, and sand tracked in the house. The first couple of times I used it, it worked great, but after that it had lost suction power and just won't pick up anything that is too much heavier than fur. I had read a couple of reviews that when this happened to them, they washed the filters and it worked fine. I tried this, but it made no difference. So most of the time, I end up using the regular vacuum for my quick touch-ups, which makes this product a waste of money. I bought this as a present for my wife. Read all the reviews and picked this one becuase of most of the reviews were positive (at the time). I did see a few others mentioning that it did not seem to suck as well as they would like. I chose to go with the majority that said it was great.

Well, unfortunatley our does not do so well we have a 5 year old corded bissell that is falling apart more or less that does better than this one does. We use it for cleaning the tile floors of the kitchens and bath. We tested em out by first cleaning with the new cordless then following up with the old corded bissell. This one missed some visible stuff and the old Bissell picked it right up.

This vacuum was awesome for the first couple of weeks, but after that it seemed to lose some of its suction strength. It just hasn't been as good since, even after changing the dust filter. It will lose suction almost totally if the dirt cup is slightly full and/or the dust screen (the nylon fabric one, not the replaceable one) gets clogged. Every time I use it, I have to empty the dirt cup and knock all the dust out of the screen or it won't work the next time. Sometimes I have to stop and do that after only a few minutes of use, because it just stops picking stuff up.

It is handy and light, and easy to get around furniture and into small places. I have hardwood floors and use it for picking up bits of litter that my cat tracks around, dirt tracked in from outside, and vacuuming area rugs. On the rugs though, I have to apply considerable downward pressure and sort of scrub it back and forth to get it to pick up stuff that is stuck to the nap. If you're just using it to vacuum up pet hair, it will work fine, but it will only pick up very light debris - like, it would probably pick up grains of rice, but not a half a peanut (or even a half of a half of a peanut).

It's useful and I'm glad I got it, but I don't count on it to do a super thorough job. There are times when it's actually more trouble than it's worth because I end up going over the same spots again and again. Often I end up hauling out the larger vacuum or a broom and dustpan because they are more effective and faster.

I bought this product due to the price and good reviews. However, it does not have near enough suction to clean even a low pile area rug. It does not get any lint out of the carpets at all and you have to go over the same spot over and over again in order to get it just a bit clean and even after that, there is still crumbs there so I have to go over it with a regular corded canister vac which I was trying to avoid by purchasing this. Its best used for hardwood floors and tile but forget it if you want to use it for carpets. My little handheld Shark vac

I love this stick vac. In fact it's the second one I've purchased. I bought the first one about 4 years ago. It still works fine but doesn't hold a charge for long. I have a lot of hardwood and tile floors (about 2000 sq ft). This vacuum is great for quick yet thorough pick ups. It gets all the pet hair, dust bunnies and stuff from the kids. With lots of tile and a cat, I really wanted a lightweight, cordless vac that I could zip around the kitchen and hall every day or so, just to get up the visible crumbs and hair. (Getting out the big vac that often is never going to happen!) On that basis, after over a year of trying, I have to declare this vac a failure. Here's why:
-- The cup won't tolerate more than a tablespoon of (very fine) debris before it quits drawing. (I promise, the filters are clean, almost insanely clean.) That gives me 1-2 minutes of use before I have to empty the canister.
-- As others have noted, it is not powerful enough to pick up anything heavier than dust or cat hair puffs. It sometimes picks up some stray litter on a nearby rug, but not consistently.
-- Also noted previously, the canister is tricky to re-install - I always have to try several times before it clicks into place.
For the time it takes dealing with all these shortfalls, I could've just hauled out my big vac and done a great job. Instead I end up annoyed and frustrated, and with very poor clean-up results.

I don't quite get why a stick cordless should be weaker than a hand-held cordless vac, since it is primarily just a hand-held attached to a stick. But in this case, it IS dramatically weaker. (My Dirt Devil Kone hand-vac is 10x more powerful and has 4x the dirt capacity!)
